Hand-Rendered Typography
Patches is a hand-rendered display type set built from fragmented letterforms that resemble puzzle pieces fitted together. Each character is composed of irregular breaks and textured segments, giving the alphabet a playful yet tactile quality. The imperfect edges emphasize the hand-drawn process, celebrating variation rather than uniformity. The first version features a multicolored palette that highlights the individual "patches," whereas the second version uses a restrained, earthy color palette to emphasize texture, form, and structure over color contrast.
The third piece is inspired by woodcut lettering and balances structure with playfulness. These letterforms feature uneven strokes, layered contours, and subtle distortions that highlight the physical aspects of illustration. Depth and texture are suggested through overlapping lines and dimensional shading, which gives the typeface a tactile and almost object-like quality.
